45ft Double Ended Gaff Riged Cutter "Archimedes" |
The
Benford Design Group in Maryland USA (click
here to contact) have been commissioned to design this 45ft double
ended gaff rigged cutter. Named "Archimedes" she features solid
wooden mast and spars.
The hull/decks and pilothouse are constructed from computer controlled
Plasma cut steel. She has been designed to survive a complete 360°
roll over as her planned voyage is from New Zealand to England via Cape
Horn.
Johnson Yachts International Ltd is particularly proud to be chosen to
build "Archimedes". Specific skills were required for this project
and they include:
1- Computer Controlled plasma cut kitset
2- Comprehensive knowledge of plate rolling in forming the hull.
3- Wooden Spar making skills
4- The design and production of custom cast bronze mast fittings and portholes.
5- The construction of a safe, strong and functional boat capable of extensive
ocean passage-making
